Sisslerfeld

Sisslerfeld is a peri-urban area in Switzerland spanning four municipalities and a growing industrial park that already hosts around 10,000 workers, with this number expected to double over the next 20 years. This rapid development creates interconnected challenges in mobility, energy, and governance. The area faces high car dependence, significant cross-border traffic, energy- and fossil fuel-intensive industrial activity, and coordination challenges linked to its multi-municipality and cross-border context.

Sisslerfeld is being developed as a Living Lab for integrated peri-urban transition. It builds on several complementary ongoing initiatives (visit: https://reallabor-sisslerfeld.ch/). Within periASTY, the Living Lab focuses on demonstrating practical mobility, energy, and governance solutions in a real-world industrial and peri-urban setting.

Through the project, Sisslerfeld is expected to evolve into a more connected, efficient, sufficient and coordinated peri-urban area. The Living Lab will support reduced congestion and car reliance, lower energy demand and emissions, improved renewable energy integration and energy system planning, and stronger cross-sector governance capacity across municipalities and stakeholders.
